Decatur County/Tipton County-Youngman/Jordan Family Bible

Family Bibles are an important source for researchers. While it is always interesting to read the entries, they often provide the only evidence for birth, death and marriage records for individuals whose events occurred prior to standardized record-keeping, whose area suffered a collections fire, or whose tombstones are not extant. Who would not love to find an'ancestor's Bible to help confirm or debunk our research or discover entirely new branches? Here are a set of records from the Indianapolis Star's Hoosier Ancestors column by Pearl Brenton's Hoosier Ancestors. This response appears in the June 21, 1964 issue and was submitted by Miss Helen Jordan of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was given the bible by her grandfather, Thomas Jordan prior to his death in 1939. It was labeled as response number 65.

Research indicates that Maturity McGee and Maturity Jourdan and the same person, McGee being her maiden name. Mary Youngman and Mary McGee are likely the same person and the mother of Maturity. The reason for the potential date discrepancy is unknown.
